ABOUT ME!
Hi I'm Jon, a professional garden designer and plant lover based in Bristol. I've studied horticulture, garden design and landscape architecture and practised them for well over half my life! As a keen allotmenteer and naturalist, I like to incorporate edible plants as well as wildlife-encouraging species and methods into my designs.
I'm currently a Member of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture (MCIHort) and a Consultant Member of The Gardeners Guild, for highly qualified and experienced horticulturalists.
I also run a commercial landscape consultancy company that designs urban spaces and generally helps out other professionals in the trade. Through this I have designed school grounds, housing developments, public spaces, show gardens and even shopping centres. After a short hiatus from the domestic scene to build the commercial business, and to relocate from Bournemouth to Bristol, I'm back designing gardens. I just can't stay away from real people and real gardens!
At home I act as mechanic to our 30-something year old VW camper, I tend to tinker when it's not absolutely necessary so if you see me cycling it probably means I have messed with something I shouldn't have!
PLANTING PLANS
I often visit recently built gardens that have no plants! Bring your new garden to life with a beautiful planting scheme.
Mature borders also need rejuvenating periodically and I like to take on these sorts of projects, assessing the existing plants and creating a new scheme to suit.
I can also supply quality plants from local nurseries to you at a much more reasonable cost than from the garden centre, so call me before you decide to buy them yourself!

BASIC DESIGN
A popular option for those with small gardens and the aim to bring in a contractor for the build, but also easy to understand if you're having a go at self-build. Don't forget that I'll always be on hand to advise and guide!
After my initial visit I will provide a clear layout design with on-plan material specification and plant palette. These can then simply be used by the contractor to install the garden.
Extras from the full package can be added if needed.
From £850
FULL PACKAGE
For medium to large gardens and small complex spaces the full package is the only way to go, ensuring a smooth and successful build programme.
In addition to a beautiful design, all the necessary background tasks are completed including full site survey (topographical if needed), construction drawings, full specification, planting plan and schedule, build cost estimates, tender preparation and project management including quality control.
From £1300
Maintenance
I like getting my hands dirty and as it turns out, I'm pretty good with plants too!
I can take on regular garden maintenance to look after more specialist aspects of gardening such as fruit tree pruning and training, border maintenance, restoration projects, meadow management and pond care.
Although I was traditionally trained, I have developed my own methods based on organic principles to create healthy and ecologically diverse gardens.
